Construction Debris

New or renovated homes often contain a conglomeration of construction debris. Often the debris is left behind as a result of poorly managed building practices that lead to these contaminants being left inside walls, attics, and basements where they can become airborne over time and circulated throughout the indoor environment via the HVAC system.

Construction debris consists of any of the following:

  • Sawdust
  • Wood chips
  • Concrete splay
  • Drywall or sheet-rock dust
  • Glues or epoxies
  • Adhesives
  • Particle board fibers
  • Solvents
  • Metal filings
  • Caulking or joint compound
  • Paint over-spray
  • Insulation fibers
  • Carpet fibers

When airborne, these seemingly harmless materials are capable of causing or contributing to sickness, even in otherwise healthy individuals.
