Clinical Information

  • Distribution of this disease is worldwide and can affect any age group.
  • Most serious cases occur in patients whose resistance is weakened or whose immune system has been suppressed.
  • Persons are at risk of catching a secondary infection from Candida when they have either tuberculosis, malignancy, or another transmittable virus containing some strains of the flu.
  • In present medical practice the advent of cytotoxic drugs and immuno-suppressive agents has dramatically increased the number and severity of diseases caused by opportunistic yeast or fungi.
  • Candida can cause lesions in the mouth, vagina or bronchi and spread from these places to produce septicemia, endocarditis, or meningitis.
