This mold is feces dependent and thrives on or near natural or organic fertilizers. Rhizopus also thrives in attics or crawl spaces where rodent excrement is found.
This mold which is responsible for food spoilage has a severe affect on those with debilitated immune systems such as children, the elderly and post-op patients.
Lowers and suppresses the white blood cells in the lung which leads to opportunistic infections.
Volatile Organic Compounds(VOC) are attributed to this mold at certain stages of it's existence.
Prolonged use of antibiotics, which are used to treat penicillium infections, further debilitate the immune system making it more difficult to fight off other infections.
